A few weeks ago I had a chance to go snorkeling in Key Largo Florida at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is the oldest underwater park in the United States. We took a short boat ride out to Dry Rocks and had a chance to see “Christ of the Abyss” which is probably one of the most famous underwater attractions in the Florida Keys. The “Christ of the Abyss” is a bronze statue of Christ mounted on a cement based in about 25 feet of water. The statue is approximately nine feet tall; it was placed in the park in 1966, and has stood tall throughout the years.
There is plenty of ocean life to see it is not uncommon to see barracudas, rays, sea turtles and even the occasional octopus.
